Is London Loosing its creative edge?

There has always been a divide between The North and South economies. It is an ongoing discussion and always will be. As The Northern manufacturing companies declined because of cheaper labour elsewhere and because of lack of ore to mine, the industrial North declined. There has always been a perceived cultural difference between North and South shown in many TV shows such as Cold Feet and Footballers Wives.

There has always been a significant divide in the placement of Creative Industries, London has traditionally been the epicentre of Creativity with all its Galleries and big creative agencies. Opportunities for career progression are perceived to be better in the South. Does it really matter where the business is located or where the student applies for jobs?

Is the gap closing? With the BBC moving some of its departments to Manchester and Liverpool winning the Capital of Culture, it is worth looking into the topic again at what seems to be a northern design renaissance.
